The JMC-ECT is an EtherCAT IO Coupler designed for machines that need a large number of digital signals on a single bus node. It links an EtherCAT network to attached JMC expansion modules, moving data at 100 Mb/s over two RJ45 ports, with the second port available for daisy-chaining the next node. Paired with JMC1616 modules, it supports up to 256 digital input and output channels.

Seamless Bridge to Distributed I/O Racks

Its 100 Mb/s transmission over two RJ45 ports keeps large I/O images moving at deterministic cycle rates to the master controller. The coupler behaves as the single network address for a whole I/O rack, so programming and diagnostics stay concentrated instead of spread across many fieldbus devices.

Reach and Scale for Large Machines

The 100 m transmission distance gives layout freedom between the controller and the machine’s I/O stations, so remote junction boxes can sit at the actual sensors instead of crowding the cabinet. When channel counts exceed what a single module provides, additional JMC1616 modules expand the system to the full 256-channel budget.

Electrical Isolation

Electrical isolation protects the local side from network faults and ground loops that can develop across long cable runs, keeping one damaged segment from taking down the whole fieldbus.

Application Scenarios

In factory automation and packaging lines the coupler concentrates sensor and actuator signals from multiple machine sections into one EtherCAT master, which simplifies commissioning and fault tracing. CNC machine tools use it to connect auxiliary I/O such as coolant, tool magazines and door interlocks without extending the axis network. Semiconductor equipment and inspection machines benefit from the high channel count when many stations must report pass/fail states at cycle speed.

Selection Advice

Confirm the master supports EtherCAT and the line topology you intend before specifying the node count. Keep the coupler supply within its rated voltage and use shielded twisted-pair cabling to preserve the 100 Mb/s data rate over the full 100 m distance. When calculating the maximum 256 channels, verify the cycle time your application needs against the master’s processing budget.
