Bus-based I/O expansion without a new controller

The JMC1616 expansion module adds 16 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs to a bus-type controller. It is compatible with JMC-101 and JMC-ECT devices, extending those systems with additional I/O without replacing the master. Because all channels share a single 24 VDC supply, cabinet wiring stays simple even as the channel count grows.

Signal levels and logic

Input logic 1 is detected at 0-5 V and logic 0 at 15-24 V, so the module distinguishes active and inactive states against a 24 VDC supply in a predictable way for the machine programmer. Match the sink/source logic of your sensors and limit switches to these thresholds when laying out the cabinet, and keep the common 0 V rail stable to avoid false triggering on noisy lines.

Expansion and flexibility

Compact dimensions and convenient expansion interfaces let modules be stacked as channel count grows, giving higher flexibility and scalability across changing production requirements.

Where the 16/16 channel count fits

In packaging machinery the inputs monitor proximity sensors on feed lanes while the outputs drive cylinder valves and conveyor zones. On CNC machine tools the module routes limit-switch, door-interlock and tool-change signals without burdening the axis controller. Semiconductor equipment and inspection stations gather pass/fail signals from multiple stations into one bus node, and material-handling systems dedicate channels to pallet presence and stacker commands. Robotics cells benefit when end-of-arm and safety-zone sensors need more discrete points than the robot controller provides.

Selection notes and operating environment

Stay within the 24 VDC rating and verify the input threshold range (logic 1: 0-5 V, logic 0: 15-24 V) against your field devices before wiring. Confirm the module protocol matches the host (JMC-101 or JMC-ECT), and mount the module inside the control cabinet away from high-voltage drives that can inject EMI into the bus. When planning capacity, count future spare channels as well as current needs so the rack does not need re-engineering at the next line changeover.
