The 5HCS558 is a compact 5-phase closed-loop stepper drive rated for 24-60 VDC supplies with a maximum output current of 5 A. It targets machines where the control cabinet is small and the supply bus is shared with low-voltage logic. Because it is a closed-loop drive, it offers the position security of a servo system at a cost point closer to a stepper installation.
Both Pulse/Dir and CW/CCW pulse modes are accepted. Pulse/Dir is the common interface for most motion controllers; CW/CCW is preferred on retrofit machines where the existing controller already outputs directional step trains. Supporting both avoids interface redesign.
The drive is characterized by high efficiency, low heat generation, and low noise. Efficient switching keeps the heatsink small, which matters in densely packed OEM enclosures. The quiet operation also benefits laboratory-adjacent or operator-occupied areas.
The 5 A maximum output and 24-60 VDC supply suit small and medium stepper motors. When sizing, keep the actual motor phase current below the drive’s maximum and verify the motor’s back-EMF against the supply voltage; the closed loop will compensate for load variations within these limits.
