One-Unit Construction

The iRSS86-80-85-17BC-RC/EC is an 8.5 N·m Integrated Stepper Motor with an 86 mm frame, 8.5 N·m holding torque and a 6.0 A rated current on 80 VDC. Drive, motor and a 17-bit absolute encoder are combined in one housing, and RS485, CAN and EtherCAT fieldbus are supported. Mounting this unit replaces both a separate stepper drive and its motor with a single flange-mounted component. There is no external driver to place in the cabinet, no power stage to size, and the long shielded motor cable disappears. On a typical 4-axis machine this saves hours of wiring and simplifies troubleshooting.

Fieldbus Options

RS485 gives simple point-to-point or daisy-chain control for basic cells. CAN is a reliable option for multi-axis machines without hard real-time requirements. EtherCAT provides the cycle-synchronous operation used by modern PLC and motion controllers. The fieldbus choice is made at configuration time for this -RC/EC variant, so the same hardware can serve different control platforms.

Encoder and closed loop Behavior

The 17-bit absolute encoder reports shaft position with high resolution and preserves it when power is lost. The closed loop corrects any step error during motion and holds position at standstill, which improves repeatability on packaging and robotic cells where the load varies from cycle to cycle. Restarting without a homing run also shortens machine setup time after power loss.

Specification List

  • Frame size: 86 mm
  • Holding torque: 8.5 N·m
  • Supply voltage: 80 VDC
  • Rated current: 6.0 A
  • Fieldbus: RS485 + CAN / EtherCAT
  • Encoder: 17-bit absolute
  • Control mode: closed loop
  • Design: compact, low vibration

Applications

Used in factory automation, packaging machinery, robotics and CNC machine tools. The 8.5 N·m class fits mid-size axes and rotary tables where a 12 N·m unit would be over-specified. Textile and printing lines also use this torque range for registration and feed rollers.

Selection Considerations

Verify the 86 mm flange and confirm the 80 VDC supply can handle 6.0 A peak demand. Select the fieldbus variant to match the controller and confirm the absolute encoder protocol compatibility. Lyenwsin supplies this model with technical documentation and support for system integration.
