3A 2-Phase Stepper Drive for Light-Duty Axes

The 2DM420 is a 3A 2-Phase Stepper Drive with an 18-36 VDC supply range and a maximum output current of 3.0 A. It is one of the smaller drives in the 2DM family, intended for applications where phase current demand is modest and panel space is limited.

Pulse Input

The drive uses Pulse/Dir command input and is tuned for low noise and low vibration so that light-duty axes run smoothly at their operating speeds. Standard pulse interfaces mean it pairs with common PLC and motion controller outputs without special hardware.

Protection

  • Supply voltage: 18-36 VDC
  • Maximum output current: 3.0 A
  • Command mode: Pulse/Dir
  • Protection: overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage

Overcurrent, overvoltage, and undervoltage protection are included. Because the drive operates from a low-voltage supply, it can be powered from the same rail that feeds sensors and small PLC I/O in a compact panel.

Applications

The 2DM420 fits Industrial Automation, packaging machinery, compact CNC equipment, robotics, automated handling mechanisms, textile machinery, printing machinery, and food processing equipment where 3 A is adequate for the connected motor.

Why Distributors Stock It

For motion control distributors, the 2DM420 is an economical answer to small indexing, clamping, and feed applications. Its low-voltage input and compact footprint make it easy to quote for retrofit projects on existing 24 VDC panels. It is also a good match for benchtop machines and laboratory fixtures where a large AC drive would be over-specified. Verify the motor inductance and keep the pulse source clean to get consistent microstep resolution. For multi-axis tables, several 2DM420 units can share one DC power supply, which lowers the total cost of the control cabinet while keeping each axis independently protected. On retrofits, the standard 18-36 VDC range means an existing 24 V bus usually needs no additional converter.
