The iESSL60-36-30-17BC-EC is a 3.0 N·m EtherCAT Stepper Motor rated at 5.0 A phase current on a 36 VDC bus, with a 17-bit absolute encoder and integrated drive in a 60 mm frame. It is designed for axes where EtherCAT networking and closed loop position feedback are required, but where a servo system would be oversized. The unit is supplied as a complete EtherCAT slave with the ESI description included.

EtherCAT Integration

As an EtherCAT slave, the unit joins the motion network with a standard ESI description. Distributed clocks allow coordinated motion with other axes, which matters on machines that index several stations in parallel.

closed loop Behavior

The 17-bit absolute encoder feeds the position loop continuously, correcting step loss before it becomes a positioning error. No homing move is required after power-on, and the machine can resume from its previous absolute position.

Specifications

  • Frame size: 60 mm
  • Holding torque: 3.0 N·m

Installation and Cooling

The single-unit construction reduces cabling between drive and motor, a common noise source on stepper axes. Keep the 60 mm frame mounted to a metal surface and allow airflow so the winding temperature stays within the continuous-duty range. On machines with several such axes, the saved wiring and cabinet space compound quickly across the line.

Applications

  • Industrial automation
  • Packaging machinery
  • Robotics
  • CNC machine tools

Setup Guidance

Confirm the EtherCAT master is configured with the correct cycle time for the application, and check the torque-speed envelope at your target speed before selecting coupling and gearing. For high-speed indexing, compare the available torque at the target speed against the load requirement before finalizing the mechanical design. The integrated drive also removes the separate cabinet drive slot, which reduces build time on new machines. Request the torque-speed envelope and EtherCAT wiring example from Lyenwsin.
