The 5.8A CANopen closed loop Stepper Drive 2HCS558-RC is the CANopen-and-RS485 model in the digital-display closed loop stepper line. It accepts a 24-48 VDC supply and delivers up to 5.8 A to the motor, a current class that covers most NEMA 23 and NEMA 34 step motors in panel-mounted installations. For packaging and food lines that already run a low-voltage DC bus, this drive adds closed loop stability without a new supply architecture.

Why the Loop Is Closed

Open-loop steppers can lose steps under load, and on cyclic machinery a missed step usually means a scrap part. This drive reads rotor position and corrects the excitation in real time, so torque stays predictable at medium and high speeds. The 32-bit ARM core runs a power-angle closed loop algorithm that also stabilizes torque where conventional step drives fade.

CANopen’s noise immunity is often preferred on packaging lines with many nodes, while RS485 is a lighter point-to-point option for simpler layouts.

Selection and Wiring Guidance

Match the Supply to the Line

The drive is rated 24-48 VDC. Confirm the cabinet bus voltage and motor current before wiring; 5.8 A output covers the motor rating only if the motor itself is within that class.

Use the Five Digital Inputs Deliberately

Homing reference, forward/reverse limit switches, and probe signals plug into the five inputs. Three more signals drive brake, alarm, and in-position indication, so the host PLC can react to faults without extra interface hardware.

Configure at the Front Panel

Slave ID, baud rate, and rotation direction are set on the unit’s keypad and digital tube display, letting operators verify node state without carrying a laptop to the line.
