When the mechanical envelope decides the design, the smallest complete axis wins. The iHSS42-24-05-RC/EC is a 0.5 N·m Integrated Stepper Motor in a 42 mm package, with motor and driver sharing one frame so a machine builder gains a complete closed loop axis without routing cables to a separate driver box.

Compact Integrated Axis for Tight Envelopes

This is the smallest member of the iHSS-R/RC/EC integrated stepper family. Motor and driver share one 42 mm frame, and the encoder feedback path is internal to the unit. The machine builder connects the DC supply and the fieldbus line, which is especially valuable on mechanisms where every millimeter of envelope is already allocated.

closed loop Feedback in a 0.5 N·m Package

The motor holds 0.5 N·m with a 1.5 A rated current on a 24 VDC bus. The 1000 P/R incremental encoder feeds rotor position back to the integrated driver, which corrects small errors in real time. The result is consistent indexing on short moves and low vibration during medium- and low-speed operation, exactly where open-loop steppers tend to drift.

Real Application Scenarios

  • Factory automation: rotating small grippers, actuating valves, and turning lightweight fixtures between stations.
  • Packaging machinery: indexing a labeler turret or diverting products on a compact conveyor.
  • Robotics: driving end-of-arm tool rotation and small gripper open/close motions.
  • CNC machine tools: tool-magazine indexing and auxiliary light axes that must keep position between cycles.

Because the RS485, CAN, and EtherCAT variants share one network wiring scheme, several of these small axes can be managed from a single controller without extra hardware.

Selection Advice Before You Specify

Supply and Current Matching

Keep the axis on a 24 VDC bus and confirm the machine supply can deliver 1.5 A per motor. The driver is sized for this current class, so do not step up the voltage without checking the driver rating.

Torque and Duty

0.5 N·m holding torque suits light indexing and short moves. For continuous high-inertia loads or sustained high-speed running, review the torque-speed curve with Lyenwsin’s technical support before finalizing the design.
