A Compact NEMA 34 Axis Drive

The 86J1880EC-1000-LS-SCG is a 4.5 N·m closed loop Stepper Motor in a NEMA34 frame, pairing a shorter 80 mm body with an integrated holding brake. Holding torque is rated at 4.5 N·m with a 6.0 A phase current and a 14 mm output shaft. The shorter stack keeps the same frame cross-section while reducing rotor inertia, which is useful when the axis must accelerate and decelerate quickly.

An integrated 1,000 P/R encoder feeds rotor position back to the drive. The closed loop corrects step loss in real time, so the motor maintains synchronized motion even when friction or cutting load changes. This also allows the axis to run with a smaller current margin than an equivalent open-loop design, lowering motor temperature during long cycles.

Why the Brake Matters Here

The integrated brake holds the shaft when power is removed. For vertical or inclined axes on packaging and handling equipment this removes the risk of back-driving during a stop or an emergency stop. Brake supply is wired separately from the phase supply so the two can be sequenced correctly in the machine logic.
